The Very Illustrious Official College of Pharmacists of Valencia (MICOF), has recently signed an agreement with the Association for Anal Incontinence (ASIA) with the aim of working together to disseminate among the society all kinds of information that contribute to a correct social image of fecal incontinence.
ASIA is a non-profit association created in 2013 with the purpose of improving the quality of life of people with incontinence, as well as to raise awareness of the reality of this pathology and its possible solutions. From this community, which has a presence throughout Spain and with the support of specialized professionals, it is also sought to promote medical research and be able to reach all those people who still do not know that they can be treated.
Fecal incontinence is defined as the inability to control bowel movements, leading to unexpected leakage of bowel movements. According to ASIA, more than 12% of the population suffers from this disorder.
In this way, the agreement expresses the "need" to raise awareness of society so that fecal incontinence is known as human pathology and to "enhance" from the pharmacy offices a "more specific" pharmaceutical assistance on this type of patients. To do this, among other actions, the publications and the necessary graphic material will be prepared to disseminate it through pharmacies while from the MICOF will offer specific courses on this pathology with the aim of allowing the update permanent use of pharmaceutical professionals.
